New York, New York

I want to be a part of it... New York, New York!

New York is a pretty sweet little city. I love, love, love the subway system and being able to walk everywhere. I stayed in Queens at Brian's apartment (Thanks Bri!!!), and i really like his neighborhood, lots of great shops all within a few blocks and the old architecture is fantastic. I feel like I'm on the set of newsies again. =) He's also got a great view of Manhattans skyline from his window. That being said i don't think i could live in most parts of Manhattan. Walking on the streets between all the ginormous buildings blocking the sun really starts to depress me after a while. I need my sunshine!!

Day 1 Brian, KJ, and me did some site seeing. Walked around Soho, rode the Staten island ferry, viewed the crumbling (figuratively, not literally) finance district... where we ran into Paul!! Well..... we were walking past his apartment, but its still fun to run into people. We picked him up and headed to the lower east side to meet Evan for happy hour and a slice of real NY pizza. Which was absolutely delicious by the way. Me and Evan ended up partying like Rock Stars, staying out till 3am, going to I don't know how many bars, and even singing Karaoke. They don't call it the city that never sleeps for nothing!

Day 2 I slept in a bit late... understandably so... and spent the rest of the afternoon walking around Central Park and the Met. The Met is pretty impressive. I spent about two hours getting lost in there and i don't even think i saw half of it. I met Brian and KJ for dinner in the city.. we wanted to go ice skating in the park but it closed an hour earlier then we thought it did. Hopefully it will still be open in 6 weeks.

Steve Angello @ the Vanguard

Saturday night we went to the Vanguard to see world renowned Greek-Swedish house DJ Steve Angello spin. It was pretty freakin' amazing. Loved his music! I liked how he mixed a lot of popular songs into his beats. I haven't danced that much since my raver days with Ronnie in high school... I thought my feet were going to fall off by the end of the night (damn heels!).

Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Yesterday I went with Raphael, Fabio, and Pera to see a taping of Jimmy Kimmel Live. Seeing shows being taped is definitely a tourist thing to do and i was definitely the only one from Los Angeles there. No seriously... I am absolutely positive about this fact. Before the show started a guy came out to entertain us and he asked if anyone remembered Jimmy from his KROQ days and I was the only one that clapped and screamed. My face went instantly red..... I don't like attention. Anyways, Teri Hatcher was the guest star so the boys (or Raphael at least) were excited about that. The show was pretty funny but it was definitely not one of his best episodes. I'd recommend going if your in L.A. Its fun, its free and its definitely an activity unique to L.A.

Booked!

So the trip is starting to come together. On Friday I booked my 2 week Egypt tour with Oasis. If you want to know roughly where and what I'll be doing, you can check out the trip itinerary here, I'm signed up for the one that starts on March 8th. I hope the other people on my trip are as great as the ones on my Africa Nomads trip.

I also booked my ticket to New York today!!! So My Journey now officially begins on Sunday, February 15. Aaaaaand I'm flying there on Virgin America Airlines!! I know its weird, but for some reason I've always wanted to fly on them and they ended up having the cheapest tickets... this may be the first time ever that I'm excited about a flight instead of anxious. So stoked to go to New York too... I haven't been since the grandparents moved from New Jersey down to FL... that was when ! was 7... and I'm still upset about that move. So anyways, I think New York as an adult is going to be waaay better then NY as a kid... made even better by the fact that I get to visit with two of my favorite people, Brian and the lovely KJ!
